Read moreThe Mental Health and Productivity Pilot, a programme delivered through the Midlands Engine, has been praised in the Transforming Support: The Health and Disability White Paper released by the Government on Wednesday 15th March, for its role in reversing unhealthy mental wellbeing stigmas.
In a case study of the MHPP cited in the White Paper, one user of the pilot said that by inducing “conversations about mental health at work” and “providing resources to enable them to run their own campaigns”, the MHPP enabled allowed us to “identify gaps in our knowledge and training and to respond to the impact of the pandemic on mental health”.
The pilot is developing an employment engagement programme to support over 800 regional businesses and raise the awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. Its chief aim is to ensure that cultures of openness can flourish across the West Midlands, by introducing self-help toolkits and bespoke training into businesses.
The joint Department of Work and Pensions/Department of Health and Social Care Work and Health Unit last year announced an 18-month extension to the pilot. The grant will support an extension of the programme until December 2023, followed by an evaluation to help build an evidence base and share best practice to support workplace mental health in the future.
