Our partners, our region

Working together for the benefit of every part of the Midlands

The Midlands Engine partnership brings voice and vision to our wonderful region – a region that stretches from Shropshire in the west to Lincolnshire in the east, reaching north to Derbyshire and south to Herefordshire.

Our region is home to 11 million people and generates nearly £250 billion for the UK economy each year. It’s an economy the size of Denmark’s and a geography serving a greater population than the devolved nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland combined. A region that’s diverse and dynamic, where communities and cultures are integrated and collaborative.

Working across organisational boundaries and through true pan-regional collaboration, the Midlands Engine partnership drives change where it matters for our communities and our economy. We know that by collaborating and co-investing, we can achieve our shared aims for regional success and underpin our future prosperity.

Strength in partnership

The Midlands Engine is not just a partnership in name. We all share a genuine sense of togetherness and belief in our amassed power to achieve more for our region’s people and places.

We are all aware that our strength comes from the fact we are greater than the sum of our parts. We all understand that because of our commitment to the same goals, we are forging something exceptional and far more significant than we could hope to achieve alone. It is this genuine togetherness that enables us to amplify each other’s successes, discover new paths forward and ultimately do more for everyone’s benefit.

Partnership focus areas

As a pan-regional partnership, we focus our efforts in the areas that evidence and data tell us represent exceptional opportunity for economic growth and prosperity.

So toegther, we are investing in transport for growth and working to strengthen our international trade and investment relationships. Together, we are accelerating our region’s digital connectivity and pioneering in health, science and research. And together, as one of the UK’s leading locations for green innovation, we are powering our region’s and our country’s net zero future.

ALL PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP

Formed by a group of committed parliamentarians, the Midlands Engine APPG plays a key role in promoting investment in the Midlands and supporting levelling up.

Chaired by Jane Hunt MP and Lord Ravensdale, this collaboration of our region’s MPs and Peers works together to raise the profile of the Midlands Engine, its projects and priorities in Parliament. The group meets every quarter with additional monthly subgroups on key areas, such as transport, health and digital. In addition to these meetings, our region’s parliamentarians are supporting the Midlands Engine through conversations with government, questions in both Houses of Parliament and speaking in relevant debates to highlight the work of the Partnership.
