About our partnership

Powering prosperity in every part of our region

Silk Mill Derby
The Silk Mill, Derby

As the UK’s largest regional economy outside London, the Midlands is home to a sixth of the UK population and spans 10,629 square miles of significant and varied geography.

The role of the Midlands Engine is to connect, champion and amplify, supporting our partners to work together to pursue shared ambitions and to add value.

The Midlands Engine is a pan-regional, apolitical partnership that convenes, connects and acts as a focal point to drive economic growth – for the greater benefit of our people, places and businesses. This shared aim of greater prosperity is what unites us and what directs our work, in collaborattion.
To achieve positive change, we focus our efforts in those areas that data and evidence tell us have the greatest potential for impact. Together, we make sure the Midlands voice is heard, championing our region through our shared intent, collaborative investment and a unified voice, direct to government.
