What we do
Global challenges, Midlands solutions

Powering our net zero future
Translating government low carbon ambitions into regional activity, our industry-led Ten Point Plan for Green Growth identifies how the Midlands Engine can drive green innovation, deliver levelling up and boost economic prosperity. Working in partnership to drive co-ordinated regional action, the plan has the power to deliver, by 2041, 196,000 new green jobs and £24.2 billion GVA per year to the economy.

Extending our global reach
The Midlands Engine helps amplify the voice and reputation of our region across the world. We work in collaboration with partners and government to support inward investment, to encourage more firms to export to more places around the world and to keep jobs in our region and the UK.

Accelerating digital connectivity
Enabling smart public services and digitalised business will drive regional competitiveness and digital levelling up. Digital innovations in our region have created a powerful evidence base to support faster infrastructure delivery and secure private and public sector investment.

Investing in transport for growth
Midlands Connect, the transport partner of Midlands Engine, is working with partners to decarbonise our region’s transport network, with a focus on more charging points, improving public transport and reducing congestion.

Providing intelligence and insights for growth
Supported by academic researchers and leading economic and industry experts, our Midlands Engine Observatory gathers data and intelligence, shapes policy insights and helps target investment for recovery and growth in our region.

Pioneering in health and life sciences
Our extensive regional strengths in health, MedTech and life sciences generate £25 billion GVA each year and are essential to tackle health inequalities. Our region features the largest cluster of MedTech companies in the UK and seven leading medical schools educating 20% of the UK’s medical students.
