Produced for the Midlands Engine Observatory, the State of the Region report reflects how the Midlands has performed in 2021, accounting for the impacts and implications of COVID-19 and EU Exit.
Due to our region’s industrial and demographic mix economic forecasts consistently showed throughout 2020/21 that the Midlands would be one of the UK regions hit hardest by the economic crisis. However, our region has demonstrated resilience in the face of the pandemic, through business innovation, redesign, and adoption of technology which have enabled businesses to adapt, pivot and prosper.
