Ratcliffe-on-Soar – a vision to transform one of the UK’s last coal-fired power stations into a technology, advanced manufacturing and energy hub

In line with government policy, the coal-fired power station owned by Uniper, will stop generating electricity by October 2025.

Uniper is currently working with regional stakeholders, including the Midlands Engine, to develop a vision for this significant site that could see it become an energy hub for innovation and business.

Ideally located close to the proposed HS2 station, the M1, Parkway station and the expanding East Midlands Airport, the land offers a prime development opportunity.

The formation of a locally led development corporation provides the opportunity for increased ambition as it will sit within a bigger, more strategic picture.

Dave Johnson, of Uniper, said:

The development corporation is the catalyst to provide the vision, momentum and global reach needed to maximise the area’s potential.

We are excited by this opportunity where an investment of national significance could provide the spark for regional development with high-quality employment.
