The Midlands Engine Observatory’s 2021 State of the Region report – reflecting on how our region has performed economically over the past calendar year will be formally launched at the Quarterly Economic Briefing on 10 December.

The final briefing of the year is part of a series of online webinars which bring policymakers and data experts from across our region together to share and discuss recent research from the Midlands Engine Observatory.

For the first time hosted on a dedicated microsite, the State of the Region report will look specifically at the impact and implications of COVID-19 and EU Exit on our region.

Amid these challenges, the Midlands Engine and the Midlands Engine Observatory have undertaken research to understand how these challenges have affected our region and how growth and prosperity can be best promoted.

This includes our recent work on the Ten Point Plan for Green Growth, future manufacturing opportunities, and understanding social enterprise across the Midlands.

Open to anyone with an interest in the economic development of the Midlands, attendees will enjoy keynotes and panel discussions that will highlight the findings of the State of the Region, discuss the economic outlook for 2022, evaluate skills needs of Midlands businesses and much more.

There will also be the opportunity to learn more about green growth opportunities for the Midlands Engine and the potential of 5G and digital infrastructure to improve digital connectivity across our region.

Liz Martins, UK Economist for HSBC, William Hobbs, Chief Investment Officer with Barclays Bank and Robert Franks, Managing Director of WM5G will all be in attendance and lending their perspectives on the findings of the report.

Quarterly Economic Briefings are free of charge to attend and will be delivered online via Teams Event software – reserve your place by signing up here.

Please note, if you have attended previous Quarterly Economic Briefings that the sign-up method has been changed.
