Identifying future priorities for the Observatory was top of the agenda at the latest meeting of the Midlands Engine Research Partnership.

The Research Partnership is the Observatory’s forum for our region’s universities where members share responsibility for steering research, collaboration, securing external funding for projects and contributing to key policy reviews and strategy.

Members of the Partnership took part in a special workshop session to examine the Observatory’s research priorities for 2022-23.

Reflecting on the thematic areas of macro-economy, digital, green growth, transport and health attendees offered their views on the critical research questions that these themes offer.

Contributions from this meeting will now inform the full research programme of the Observatory which gathers data and evidence to support the Midlands Engine mission of increasing prosperity in our region.

Observatory director Professor Delma Dwight commented:

As the only pan-regional Observatory in England, our work needs to be tailored and focused on providing a clear regional picture to benefit policymaking in the Midlands.

I want to thank the members of our Research Partnership who volunteer their time to help us refine our programme of work for the coming year and beyond, ensuring that the data we provide continues to inform decision making in our region both today and tomorrow.

The next meeting of the Research Partnership is scheduled for 2 March 2022 from 10:00 to 12:00.
