The Midlands Engine partnership today (11th March) welcomes the Chancellor’s commitment in the Budget to further increase the Department for International Trade’s resources to support UK regions, including the establishment of dedicated trade envoys to promote global trade with the Midlands.

The partnership looks forward to close collaboration with the Government to further strengthen the international reach of our businesses, helping them to grow and prosper in every part of the Midlands.

Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Midlands Engine, said:

The Midlands Engine partnership has long understood the value of showcasing the wealth of potential our region has to offer to the world, and has worked to add value in key markets in Europe, Asia, America and further afield. With a focus on accelerating SME exporting and significantly strengthening international trade links by regional firms, the Midlands already contributes £90bn to the UK economy through its international trade activities.

I welcome the Chancellor’s announcement of increased budget investment and new trade envoys who can amplify the visibility of UK regions, including the Midlands, throughout the world. We look forward to even closer collaboration with the Department for International Trade to ensure these investments bring significant increases in international trade, securing growth and enhanced prosperity across our region.
