On 10 February, Midlands Engine Health Industry Leaders Roundtable started a pivotal, pan-regional conversation to develop a deep understanding of health and life sciences in the Midlands; a unique opportunity to hear insights from leading voices from right across our region’s health and life sciences sector.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Darren Clark, Chief Executive of Medilink Midlands, Dr. Nik Kotecha, Chairman of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, and Rachael Greenwood, Executive Director of the Midlands Engine.

Among the items discussed were:

  • Possible solutions to remove barriers preventing economic growth and innovation
  • How to encourage partnership action to build and expand on our sector strengths
  • The development of a basis for future engagement with Government

Speaking about the event Dr Nik Kotecha spoke about:

Excellent engagement at the inaugural #MidlandsEngine Health industry leaders roundtable today, which highlighted the need for a collaborative approach to amplifying both, the voice of the region and our strengths in health & life sciences.

Dr. Darren Clark said:

The Midlands life science industry has a lot to shout about and by bringing us together at events like the Midlands Engine Health Industry Leaders round table, we can ensure that the voice of industry is heard and collectively we make the most of every opportunity, now and in the future.

The Midlands boasts regionally and nationally significant strengths in health and life sciences; strengths that the COVID-19 pandemic has emphasised.

In 2020, the Midlands Engine partnership identified this sector as a priority for urgent focus, establishing Midlands Engine Health to champion and amplify our region’s innovation and leadership in this sector.

Key themes drawn from the roundtable will inform a report which will be used to advance the ongoing Midlands Engine Health conversation; a vital opportunity to showcase the Midlands’ world-leading expertise and spearhead growth.

Contributions from attendees will also be taken forward into conversations Midlands Engine undertakes with Government.
