The Management and Leadership group aims to strengthen the skills of our business leaders in order to drive economic gains across the Midlands.
Shortcomings in this area were identified in the Midlands Engine Strategy as a barrier to growth and contributor to the region’s below-average productivity.
This project aims to look afresh at the issue and to identify and implement solutions that will tackle the issue.
One of the propositions currently being explored is the creation of a Management and Leadership Institute which would complement the existing training being delivered.
Most of the focus will be on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which could pave the way for the creation of a type of “Midlands Mittelstand” which is a model in Germany where highly productive and tech-driven businesses. These businesses prioritise workforce skills, development and apprenticeships.
